For the 2nd year in a row the Kawartha Komets Special Needs Hockey Program was one of the sponsors of the KIP Friendship Tournament in Kitchener, ON. This event, hosted by the Kitchener Ice Pirates, involved nine (9) special needs hockey organizations.
The event was so successful in 2016 that Kirsten Carr and her committee decided to host the event again.
The tournament ran for two days, Saturday, February 18th and Sunday, February 19th with each team playing three games.
All four Kawartha Komets, the Saturns, the Galaxy, the Meteors and the Phoenix teams participated. If Kirsten and the Kitchener Ice Pirates decide to plan this event again next year the Komets will be BLAZING again!
Many thanks to everyone who made this tournament a success. The proceeds from our Game Night Sponsorship at the Petes game on December 29th and from the Komets game against the Peterborough Petes on January 22nd helped to send close to 60 of our 66 players to Kitchener. Many thanks to Mike Powell and the Canadian Tire Pit Stop for your very generous corporate donation.
The players had a great time and that's what counts!
BLAZE KOMETS, BLAZE!

The Kawartha Komets Special Needs Hockey Program was launched in 2009 by our founder, Carol Fisher. The Komets 2020-2021 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus and the 2021-2022 season was cut short because of COVID. We are taking registrations for the 2022-2023 season. Please call us today @ (705) 868-8825 (cell) or e-mail us at kawarthakomets@gmail.com for more information. If you e-mail us we will send you a Registration Form. THANK YOU!
We started off in the downstairs pub area at event space San Francisco and then moved to the upper level, many tables were already reserved there but we commandeered some sitting space in front of a fireplace that was just the right size for our group of happy campers.
